DAR American History Essay Contest
for 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students
Essays must be submitted to us by December 9th
This contest was established to encourage young people to think creatively about our nation’s great history and learn about history in a new light. Each academic year, a unique essay topic is chosen and guidelines are made available. The contest is open to all students in grades 5-8. Essays are judged for historical accuracy, adherence to topic, organization of materials, interest, originality, spelling, grammar, punctuation and neatness.

A winner will be selected from each of the four grades to advance to the state level. The state winner from each grade will advance to the divisional level. The divisional winners will advance to the national level where the winners are announced. All National winners will receive a certificate, medal and a monetary reward.

In preparation for the 250th anniversary of the nation’s founding, the DAR has launched the
"Patriots of the American Revolution DAR High School Essay Contest.”
This contest will focus on the men and women who figured in the events of the American Revolution (1773–1783), and it is hoped that students will find Patriots to write about who will interest and inspire them.

Good Citizen Award & Essay Contest
Open to Public and Private High Schools in Pierce County
Good Citizen Selection Deadline November 1st. Essay Deadline December 1st
Each accredited school may select one graduating high school senior to celebrate as their school's "Good Citizen".
The award and optional essay contest is intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship.
The essay contest is administered by the school, and deadline to submit the completed essay to our Chapter Good Citizen Chairperson is December 1. Top essay winning at the chapter level will move their essay to state, top winning essay will go on competing at the national level. All levels have the opportunity for scholarship awards.
The Good Citizen student should let us know they wish to complete in the Essay Contest immediately upon being recognized by the school. Pierce County Washington High Schools-Principal/staff/counselors nominate your Good Citizen today!

American Indian Student Scholarships
for College Bound Native American students
Three scholarships are available from DAR for college-bound Native American youth. The application process is now entirely online through DAR Academic Works portal located on the national Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) website.
The portal will open to apply for the coming year, 2025, on November 1, 2024.
No applications will be accepted other than via the online application submission portal.
