DAR is a Service Society - 125 years of Service to America
DAR is a volunteer, non-profit service organization whose members have proved lineal
descent from someone who fought in, or gave aid to, the American Revolution. The first organizational meeting of the new National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) was held in Washington, D.C., on October 11, 1890. Eighteen women attended and by the end of the meeting eleven members had paid their dues and the DAR was born. Since its founding, DAR has admitted more than 1,000,000 members.
We are all one in a million! |
The missions laid forth in the first meeting of the DAR have remained the same in over 125 years of active service to the nation. The three "Pillars" of DAR are:
- Historical - to perpetuate the memory and spirit of the men and women who achieved American Independence
- Educational - to promote education for the development of an informed public
- Patriotic - to cherish, maintain, and extend the institutions of American freedom, to foster true patriotism and love of country, and to aid in securing for mankind all the blessings of liberty
